|1894 Ryosuke Yamaoka and Sumi Yamaoka established a Japanese inn “Meiji kan” in Osu in Nagoya.
1905 “Meiji kan” was burnt down in a fire.
1916 The second-generation Keitaro Yamaoka and Hama Yamaoka
established a restaurant “Hassokaku”
Their famous beef pot served in gold pots and silver pots became very popular and people made long lines to eat there.
1917 They opened a Japanese inn “Minato kan” by the Nagara river in Gifu city.
This is the start of Hotel Park.
1935 The Nobel Prize winning writer Yasunari Kawabata visited there three times and wrote a story set there.

Japan was at the height of economic boom that time.
When the NHK drama “Kunitori monogatari” hit the air which is the story of
Nobunaga Oda and was shot in Gifu. About 400,000 people visited
Gifu to watch cormorant fishing.
However, as time went by many of the hotels lost their business.
